5 band Hexbeam Antenna homebrewing in Bangalore: Jan-Feb 2011

Hi all,
I am planning to homebrew Hexbeam with fiberglass spreaders and 1.5 sqmm insulated wires. I have already ordered 3 extra sets of fiberglass spreaders and wires for the project.
I am looking for fabricating base plates and buying hoseclamps, support cords etc as well. ( any knowhows on suppliers and fabricators would be helpful)

If any one is interested in homebrewing, please let me know. we can share the actual costs and build quality HF 5 bander.

Items to be collected in Bangalore only. Please leave a comment to this blog if interested.

Cost of spreaders per set would around 4500/- and wires may be upto 900/- including transportation etc(will confirm once they arrive).

I have chosen insulated wires for their immunity to rainly/salty weather conditions and longer life (based on what some research on internet)

Please post all queries here only. As it is helpful to many more hams like you and me.

Bare copper wire is better than insulated. 14 awg bare copper wire is the best. Easy to tune when compared to insulated wire. vu2au is using bare all. wire for his quad - He says it is as good as copperwire and brings down the weight by a few kilos. He is on the air every day between 5 -6.30pm somewhere around 14170 to 14220.

I have had qso with AU few times in the past. His signals were booming down near Mangalore even with lesser wattage. I chose insulated because they are easily available at neighborhood shops. And since hex is half wave, weight should be less than 10 kg overall. Let me see how it goes with this one.

Thanks for the feedback.

Got delivery of fiberglass delivery on VRL logistics today. VU3NXI and VU2GZ accompanied me to get these. Couple of these pipes had fracture at edges. May be we will have to cut that portion as these were anyway bit longer in size.
